Description: The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) was founded in 1966. The university is located in six different cities and has its main campus in Odense. It has five faculties: Humanities, Natural Sciences, Economics and Social Sciences, Health Sciences and Engineering. The university employs around 5,000 staff and has over 21,000 students.
Role in the project: As the lead partner, the SDU assumes the main responsibility for managing the project and is responsible for carrying out certain tasks. These tasks include communicating with the Interreg administration, preparing progress reports, processing applications for reimbursement, monitoring reimbursements, managing irregularities and managing reclaims, always in compliance with Interreg requirements. Even if a project office (e.g. through an external service provider) and other project staff support the SDU in carrying out these operational and administrative activities, the final responsibility remains with the SDU and is not passed on.
Partner: CRM - Coastal Research & Management

Description: CRM is an interdisciplinary company based in Kiel that brings together experts from the fields of marine biology, landscape ecology and biotechnology. Since its foundation in 1993, CRM has specialised in marine topics with a comprehensive range of consulting services and applied research and has successfully established itself in this field. As an active partner in networks on aquaculture, marine biotechnology and sustainable marine utilisation, CRM is intensively involved in the further development of these topics at national and European level. The company pursues the clear goal of protecting and sustainably utilising the oceans - always in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 14 "Life Below Water", and actively contributes to their implementation.
Role in the project: As part of the project, CRM is particularly concerned with the question of how the utilisation of algae can be made sustainable. The aim is to provide well-founded, science-based answers to the ecological impact of algae utilisation in coastal areas - in terms of harvesting, cultivation, transport, processing and marketing. CRM will detail the potential impacts and develop practical recommendations on how algae can be utilised and managed in an environmentally friendly way. In addition, CRM will work with the project partners to compile a comprehensive list of edible algae occurring in the programme region and specifically identify species that are suitable for commercial use.
